Notes on the songs from Matt Hatfield hisself: As The Day Begins (Hit #1): One of the first songs I wrote while living in the Sierras. Originally a lot slower with a lot of finger picking.Wind Blows: Written as a result of being home sick for the central coast while working construction up in Sacramento. Originally arranged for the country band Cherokee Reign, but I like the Iron Triangle swing version. Time To Move: I tried to do something different with this song; jazzed it up a bit. I was feeling desperate to move while living in "Dog Town" on the Nipomo Mesa. Never See You Cry: Written about my high school sweetheart. My wife's still waiting for a completed song about her. Pacific Folk Music No.2: After the Matt Hatfield Band broke up I tried to write a song that could be played solo with catchy lyrics about the things I enjoyed: wind surfing, wine drinking, playing disc golf and discussing politics. Fourth Of July: Another song written for the country band Cherokee Reign. Showdown: Written after a trip to Long Beach: it was a bad trip and made me depressed. Wish I never had to write this one. Heart Longs: (Composed) after watching and listening to The Weavers on a TV special about folk music. Written in 10 minutes. Growing Old In Rhyme (Hit #2): This song speaks for itself. Originally a slow acoustic folk song, recording with The Iron Triangle really changed the whole song for the better. Although my wife still likes the original way I play it. |
